I decided to set finger to keyboard in an effort to educate people out there how best to deal with video producers in the independent media world, in other words, me.
So let’s set the stage… you are a talented person who wants to do an on-line video show but who lacks the technical knowledge or resources to pull it off and I have the technical resources and the ability to produce a show, but I don’t have the skill/ability/charm that you do.
With me so far? Ok good. Now in the world that I live in it takes many steps to produce a show, it takes:
- An idea
- A Host
- Artwork/Rights
- Music/Rights
- Studio Time
- Post Production Time
- Website Setup
- SEO for video content
- Comment Management
- You understand your subject more than I ever will, be ready to educate me and the world, don’t make me drag it out of you.
- Be honest with yourself, if you want internet fame and want to unleash your inner Diva, by all fucking means do it. No one likes to watch the ambivalent performer.
- Be prepared to promote your own show, and I mean anywhere and everywhere possible. No one will be as committed to your success as yourself.
- Be present, don’t just assume your going to show up at your call time and then walk out at the end knowing that your show will be a hit, offer to be involved in every step of the production. You might not be needed at every step but much like oral sex, enthusiasm is everything.
- Understand that we are both investing our time, and I am also investing my equipment, insurance, rent, and lighting.
